This book is considered non-fiction because it contains a lot of facts and real-life pictures. This book talks a lot about planet earth and the different things we can find on earth. Such as, different types of rocks, crystals, soil, minerals, fuels, and fossils. The book talks about how we use these materials to make different things. It also talks about what each of these things mean and where we can find them on our planet. It provides a lot of examples and pictures to go along with these examples. I would recommend this book for a classroom that is learning about rocks and soil. I think it would be a really good book to have for students to look at as they are learning about a science unit.

Thorough overview of nature study for beginners with many ideas for easy hands-on activities, but some parts are dated, such as the use of tape recorders to record sounds in nature, and some of the suggested projects are very difficult to execute, such as building a "garden observation cage."
