Review # 1 was written on 2008-01-11 00:00:00 Mark Jeszenka A hauntingly familiar story of racial injustice committed through predatory lending and insurance-scouring. It is so important to understand how the current situation of these neighborhoods has so little to do with the problems of those who live there, but more to do with the problems of those who left. Familiar because occasionally while reading it I would find myself wondering if I was reading the New York Times about the subprime mortgage crisis. For how long will this shit go on? Seems like the practice finally caught up with the white man tho - this time Wall Street is definitely feeling the hurt. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-07-09 00:00:00 James Mcnil There are several references to Pratt and Cypress Hills LDC. This is not the book to learn about the general policies or laws that allowed East New York to become a "ghetto." It is, however, the place to learn about the power brokers of the neighborhood and the history of this specific place. |
