Review # 1 was written on 2013-02-22 00:00:00 Daniel Itatani very well documented book and an interesting combination of elements was used to analyse the subject period and location. It is a good book to show that the classical story off portugese building forts along the african coast in the 15th and 16th century is simply not true. However the obessive nature of the author in collecting a mountain of evidence prevented it to be easy to read and after reading the book you have trouble remebering what the essence of the book was. still a good book for anyone interested in western african history but only if you are prepared to make an effort |
Review # 2 was written on 2018-10-21 00:00:00 Bridget Thomas A bit of an anticlimax this one, coming straight after I read "The Night of the Twelfth". The stories were just too simple and obvious. |
