Review # 1 was written on 2011-06-15 00:00:00 Michael Woodruff When I began reading this, I didn't realize it was framed as an "alternative textbook" for a course legal ethics. I know that sounds silly for anyone reading the title, but when I see "a critical reader" I assume it's a collection of essays and literature. To that extent, Carle has gathered a wide variety of interesting authors who push readers (particularly law students) to consider the bounds of lawyers as professionals who govern their own ethics and disciplinary procedures. While it skips over crucial and significant recent issues (e.g., the "War" on Terror), it provides a relatively useful foundation for students who are interested in exploring critical legal studies and its intellectual cousins (critical feminist studies, critical race studies, etc.). Probably not ideal for general readers, but likely interesting for those who practice in legal ethics or who teach it.

Review # 2 was written on 2015-08-04 00:00:00 James Loftin Comprehensive, but has a very clunky layout that makes it harder to use.
