Review # 1 was written on 2020-08-15 00:00:00 Kristina Taylor I read this for my Teachings of the Catholic Church course at the University of St. Thomas. I found Nichols' tone a bit much at times, but I guess some of these concepts are pretty complex. I appreciated the incorporation of examples from different Catholic rites, such as Greek Orthodox and Byzantine and Roman. This is a dense read but is full of so much good information. Worth a read for the "serious" Catholic. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-12-10 00:00:00 Carl Monkman If you are a Catholic and have ever wondered how the sacraments came to be, you don't want to miss this! It is fascinating to read the historical progression of the sacraments. It dispels a lot of myths, and exposes some of the 'dirty secrets' of Christianity- i.e. how the sacrament of marriage only came to be around the time of the Middle Ages, etc. It will hopefully also make you appreciate how far we've come in 2000 years!!! |
