Review # 1 was written on 2011-08-30 00:00:00 Harry Imdo Read or skim, keep as resource. The author explains some of the practical points of a visit, including interaction with nursing home staff and etiquette, as well as the spiritual and emotional nurturing side. Of the more helpful parts, the author does a good job of helping us understand what those who are transitioning into nursing homes or have been living there for some time are going through. Through better understanding, we can be a better encouragement. I especially appreciated the practical info on various kinds of visits, from dementia to non-responsive residents. At times the author assumes a more liturgical background and even promotes ritual over a less formal tradition, but the book is still helpful for the general framework of a visit. |
