Review # 1 was written on 2009-05-02 00:00:00 Michael Silva This is a tongue-in-cheek review of the different types of boarding houses in New York in the 1850s. It was quite entertaining in the beginning, but lost some appeal after the 25th or so chapter. At some point the various types of people started to run together, and since I am not looking to move into the mentioned boarding houses minute differences between types were less intersting. |
Review # 2 was written on 2012-03-23 00:00:00 Nick Athas Mitchell got a little repetitive by the end of his book, but I appreciated the effort at close reading of court records and newspaper articles. He makes the argument that whiteness was a social construction in New Mexico, dependent on proper bodily comportment. |
