I had to read this for a seminar on Family, Marriage and Kinship in Anthropology and it was an excellent text for the subject. I felt like the language was accessible and the subjects and terminology never felt too esoteric for the average reader. I would recommend this for anyone who would like to understand how these concepts vary, intersectionally and cross-culturally. It's a wonderful introduction to the subject and I actually felt myself enjoying the text when completing my reading assignments for the course.

Read for a summer class I took. It is full of past and present cases around culture diveristy. It may make some people sick to think that people still practice things western society would deem immoral but it happens. You must ask youself if what we think is right and wrong has more to do with our own culture and ideas around colonialism throughout history and today. Very informative.
