Review # 1 was written on 2018-07-16 00:00:00 Paul Richard Will be most useful when I have more experience. | I think the "teach yourself" portion of the title is a bit misleading. If I hadn't been watching videos online already while waiting for this book to be delivered, I would not be able to follow the instructions here with any degree of success. There also doesn't seem to be enough assistance with problems--troubleshooting, as it were. Very very basic first instructions, which start in chapter 5, are followed by more advanced techniques, when I still need beginner help. I got this as part of the beginner kit from Chipping Away, and following the book's instructions to begin with curved chips, using the marks on the practice board, was really demoralizing. Turns out that for me, the three sided triangles are much easier. Also, choosing which way to do the first cut (based on grain) pretty much determined my success, despite it not being mentioned in that first instructional section. |
