Review # 2 was written on 2015-07-11 00:00:00 Todd Manny With the current ruckus in Atlanta about the Atlanta Braves relocating to Cobb County, this was a useful reminder of the negative impact of professional sports' teams on the city, especially on the neighborhoods that have the bad luck to be adjacent to the stadium. Also, the account of why MARTA got built is fascinating and disturbing -- city leaders wanted Atlanta to be "a real city" and real cities have rail transit systems, so one was built in Atlanta even though it was not projected to have much ridership in a low density metropolitan area. Ditto for the attempted revival of Underground Atlanta as a "festival marketplace." A somewhat horrifying account of bad decisions made by people who were spending other people's (that is, the city's) money. Good luck to Cobb County with that baseball team thing. Hope it works better for you than it did for us. |
