I liked this book because it discussed the discrepancy between what adults want boys to read and what boys actually read. It talked about why they want to read those things and analyzed some of the popular boys literature (including Captain Underpants, Harry Potter, and Holes) to see how these books either reinforced traditional masculine stereotypes or broadened them. I like that Harry Potter was said to be progressive because there have been many reviews saying that it is feminist and many saying that it is very masculine which means that it probably does a pretty good job at depicting a realistic view of an adolescent's life and the growing and changing influences and outlooks they have.

brilliant series of essays about male gender identity formation as reflected/created in children's literature and film.
