Review # 1 was written on 2013-07-15 00:00:00 Lynn Strazzere An engaging and interesting series of anthropology essays that cover a broad range of ideas about place and locality. Lovell's introduction, Filip De Boeck's essay on the aLuund people in the DRC, and Anna Bohlin's exploration of museum and identity in relation to District Six in South Africa are highlights. The final essay, by Eduardo Archetti, about identity of the pibe (the unwashed and mischievous young boy) as a symbol of Argentinian unity is very entertaining. Overall, the book is a little too heavy on the technical aspects of anthropological studies, and although interesting can be a bit heavy for a lay reader. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-08-22 00:00:00 Allie Miller Interesting book. Might have focused a bit much on specific buildings and personalities for a casual reader. But good flow of history of South Beach. |
