Review # 1 was written on 2020-11-27 00:00:00 Charlo Galea Part of the Voyage Through the Universe series, this book explores the evolution of the telescope as a Harvester of Light. With an explanation of how telescopes work, the book also spotlights the telescope makers and developers and looks at the developments that have helped telescopes see further and more clearly. It then goes on to explore the developments in astronomical photography and the discoveries made with the use of supertelescopes such as Hubble. Illustrations and diagrams, a glossary, and a bibliography support the text. Despite advances made after the publication of this book, the background and historical information is solid. Readers with an interest in the history of astronomy and telescopes will find much to appreciate here. Recommended. |
Review # 2 was written on 2011-09-08 00:00:00 Roshia Adams Very in-depth on the optics used to peer into the great expanse of space. The language could be difficult at times, but it did explain everything as long as the reader can remember everything or is willing to flip back and forth. Also this was published in about 1992 so it is now almost 20 years old, but the historical parts are very accurate and were perfect for a project I was doing in Earth and Space Science when I started reading it. |
