This book on teaching composition was recommended to me by a colleague who teaches communication in the humanities. I am not fond of Ponsot's belief in inductive reasoning (i.e., not making concepts explicit beforehand), but like her idea of building on students' strengths and insistence on observation over inference. I will try to incorporate these latter strategies into my own teaching.

THE classic book on teaching by one of our greatest poets. Marie Ponsot is an original and unfortunately largely unknown, even now as she's in her late 80s.
