Poul Anderson - Arsenal Port - 4 stars - A privateer is on the way from Earth to try to free a planet from alien invaders, but others from Earth try to stop them. A fairly good story. Robert Rohrer - Keep Them Happy - 4 stars - A story of legal justice in the future. When a person is found guilty and sentenced to death, the execution is done immediately, but not until the person is put into a truly happy state. An interesting story plot. T. P. Caravan - Blind Date - 3 stars - A truly stupid story. A scientist invents a time machine, but selects an absolute idiot to be the test subject, with predictable results. Theodore L. Thomas - The Ice Ages - 3 stars - A short essay on using core samples to determine climate cycles in the past. Roderic C. Hodgins - The History of Doctor Frost - 5 stars - A mathematician is attempting to provide proofs for a very important set of equations. He can't quite manage to do one of them and, unintentionally, invokes a demon who offers to help him. His ensuing difficulties in getting help from the church, the medical community and friends make for a very interesting story. Jane Beauclerk - Lord Moon - 2 stars - Total nonsense. Isaac Asimov - Science: The Certainty of Uncertainty - 3 stars - Measurement and the uncertainty principle. Isaac Asimov - Eyes Do More Than See - 4 stars - In the far, far future mankind has become pure energy creatures who just think. One of them gets the idea to gather matter together and create a new creature with a physical body. A good story. Len Guttridge - Aunt Millicent at the Races - 5 stars - What would you do if your aunt suddenly turned into a horse? A very fun story. |
