Review # 1 was written on 2015-02-06 00:00:00 David Vanderwoude The book focuses on what the author calls lifestyle entrepreneurs. These are small business owners that went into business for themselves for non-financial reasons. Here are the key lessons I learned: - First off, many people start businesses for reasons similar to why I would do it (work for yourself, work with people of your choosing, better work life balance, having more fun in your work) - Not all small business owners work 80 hour weeks - It's hard to get financing for a "lifestyle" type business b/c a bank is interesting in lending to companies with aggressive growth strategies The first half of the book covers the stuff above, the 2nd half was more of a "how to" discussion, which I found less useful. If you wanted guidance on how to run a business, I probably wouldn't use this book. It's kind of a cursory review of the basics - like, you need to have track financials, have accounting systems, etc. |
Review # 2 was written on 2016-04-12 00:00:00 Rob Ouimet Proof that life as a farmer doesn't have to be a giant debt show! This book contains loads of practical information. He isn't a polished writer, but his enthusiasm and plain speaking make this an enjoyable read. I began it for the information, to better understand concepts my husband had been discussing. I was surprised to find that it wasn't dry reading at all. I ended up scrawling notes in my Bullet Journal for future reference. Note: he has changed approaches to a few things since this book was written. Look Greg Judy up on YouTube for info along that line. |
