For many years now, Paulist Press has been publishing its "101 Questions and Answers" series, which offers an introduction to various theological topics and disciplines. The volumes range in quality from the excellent (Raymond Brown's contribution on the Bible) to the highly dubious (Richard McBrien's book on the Church), but recent additions to the series have overall been quite good. Such is the case with Giles Dimock's "101 Questions and Answers on the Eucharist", which offers a thorough and very orthodox look at the Sacrament which is "the source and summit of the Christian faith." Dimock cogently explains the various dimensions of the Eucharist, from its Jewish origins and the various names by which it is called (Blessed Sacrament, Holy Communion, Breaking of the Bread, etc.) to the structure of the Mass, the Real Presence, the Eucharist as sacrifice, and Eucharistic adoration. He concludes with an edifying consideration of Eucharistic spirituality and a look at some saints who are particularly associated with the Eucharist. Highly recommended for anyone seeking an introduction or an overview of this most sublime sacrament.

Well done little book from a former professor. Covers a lot of ground in a language accessible to any interested reader. All questions are listed in the Table of Contents and divided into eleven different categories, so it is invaluable as a reference. But I would highly recommend reading it straight through as some answers and insights will come from questions you may have never thought to ask. Short answers (at most two pages, often a page or less) allows the reader to read as much or as little as a time as he would like in discrete portions. Highly recommended for those who want a deeper dive into the Catholic understanding of Eucharist of for those who desire an introductory primer.
