Frederic Baraga could very well have been called "The paddling Priest" or "the hiking priest". He traveled by every form possible during his time: dogsled, horseback, steamer, train, stage...to minister his flock.

What a bore of a read. I opened the book hoping to get some insight into the spirituality of Archbishop Oscar Romero. No such luck. It is basically a summary of the things he did that day, and he barely scratches the surface. He often mentions "interesting" discussions, but never goes into details. Ever. So you're left wondering what was said, what was so interesting. It's really too bad. If you're looking for entertaining anecdotes, or spiritual thoughts, look elsewhere. I think the only people who would be really interested in this book are students of the history of El Salvador, and then only those people who are conducting research. It's just not an interesting book-- to use his own bland adjective.
