This is an astrology book that doesn't talk about astrology all that much, at least not as most astrology books do. Instead of tackling how to interpret a chart, the authors's focus is on the planets (and asteroids) and the archetypes that correlate with them. But unlike their earlier book Mythic Astrology: Internalizing the Planetary Powers, in which they covered the myths of the planets and signs in depth, here the authors are interested in practical ways to work with these archetypes. For each planet/asteroid, the authors discuss dreamwork, planetary remedies, and invocations. I was happy to discover that Guttman and Johnson have tried to come up with modern applications of the planetary remedies, as well as to create remedies for the asteroids and the outer planets. I was a little frustrated with the results, though. For instance, apparently fearing that most people have too much Uranus energy in their lives already, the authors only offer ways to balance it out, not strengthen it. Given how many people freak out at the thought of change, maybe some strengthening remedies would've been useful'and the reader should at least have the option of learning about them. Also, the authors mostly offer actions for their new remedies, not objects (stones, metals, foods, etc.). That's fine, but objects can sometimes be used when activities won't work (you can wear a bit of copper to strengthen your Venus even when taking a walk through a garden isn't an option), so it would've been nice to see what objects might work for the modern planets. As a whole, this book has a rare approach to astrology that makes for an interesting change of pace. Readers who enjoy it may also wish to check out Raven Kaldera's Pagan Astrology.

Very good account of planetary archetypes and their role in the dream state. this has lead me in a different direction with my practice as an astrologer. Soon I will be in Greece feeling the energy one on one with the Gods themselves!
