Review # 1 was written on 2017-07-31 00:00:00 John Canfield What fosters political engagement? Perrin approaches this from a qualitative perspective, conducting focus groups with different types of groups in southern California. He argues that people talk about politics all the time, just not always consciously about politics. Having a conversation about student scholarships and loans? Well, in a few months your conversation partner can reflect on that and utilize it to construct a political opinion. While I prefer quantitative research, I found the arguments for a creative definition of political engagement quite interesting. It's a really easy read (got through the majority in about 5 hours). |
