"Fairy-Tale Love and The Reef" by Elizabeth Ammons - a great interpretation of The Reef. Anne Leath a Sleeping Beauty expecting to be emotionally/sexually awakened by her Prince Charming (George Darrow). The fairy-tale fantasy of deliverance by a man appears to be but is not a dream for women. It is a glorification of the status quo: a culturally perpetuated myth of female liberation which in reality celebrates masculine dominance, proprietorship, and privilege. Well said.

Some of these essays are helpful, but for the most part this book is way too outdated to use right now. And I HATE how Bloom claims Wharton is just "Jamesian." Apparently he's unaware of the differences between the two writers.
