Review # 1 was written on 2008-07-18 00:00:00 Pedro Martinez "Fairy-Tale Love and The Reef" by Elizabeth Ammons - a great interpretation of The Reef. Anne Leath a Sleeping Beauty expecting to be emotionally/sexually awakened by her Prince Charming (George Darrow). The fairy-tale fantasy of deliverance by a man appears to be but is not a dream for women. It is a glorification of the status quo: a culturally perpetuated myth of female liberation which in reality celebrates masculine dominance, proprietorship, and privilege. Well said. |
Review # 2 was written on 2009-05-18 00:00:00 mike barbee Some of these essays are helpful, but for the most part this book is way too outdated to use right now. And I HATE how Bloom claims Wharton is just "Jamesian." Apparently he's unaware of the differences between the two writers. |
