This is a very insightful and brilliant book. I was very impressed at the way the book ties together Baudrillard, Barthes, and Frank Waters with the work of Diego Romero, Jaune Quick-to-see Smith, and Edgar Heap of Birds. This book is very insightful and essential to any student of Native American history or issues and anybody interested in the matters of race that confront indigenous people of today. The book raises the question that Native artists will continue to have their "Indianness" come into question by other Native Americans. Which is actually something I have had happen in my own life. I would love to read the follow up to this book if it has been written. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Stunning account of Matisse's representations of women. Elderfield overthrows over-academic dualisms and shows Matisse's work with all of the beautiful ambiguity it deserves.
