Excellent book about the frontier Confederate Soldiers in Texas from 1861 to 1865. The Texas Rangers provided many troops to stay in Texas during the Civil War to patrol Texas Borders from Union Army invasions, defense against Indian attacks, make sure that the supply and cattle trails were protected, open, and safe, provide frontier justice in remote towns, and many other functions. This excellent book provides the fascinating history of the interior of Texas during its years in the Confederacy and its rangers and troops.

During the Civil War, federal troops no longer protected the frontier of Texas and most fighting men entered the Confederate army to fight in the East or in the expedition to grab New Mexico and Arizona. As the line of civilization retreated the Texas Rangers were expanded and took over the war against the Indians.
