Review # 1 was written on 2011-02-01 00:00:00 Gabriel Hernandez A groundbreaking collection of writings from Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, a pioneer in the struggle for racial and gender equality. This reader contains almost all of Harper's poetry and a substantial amount of her speeches, lectures, essays and letters. Essential reading for anyone interested in the history of black American intellectual thought, free black society during the slave era, Reconstruction and more |
Review # 2 was written on 2007-08-20 00:00:00 Amy Moye Like many of my peers in college, I participated in the extracurricular activities that most did: drinking. Having to read this book after spending the weekend drinking cheap beer, let's say, it wasn't appreciated. According to Harper drinking alcohol is equivalent to living your life in utter hell. I realize times have changed drastically since Harper wrote this novel, but I don't think she would be happy with the way things have turned out. |
