Review # 1 was written on 2019-10-21 00:00:00 Ben Torres This anthology was first published in the 1920s, edited by a Howard University professor, and its selections and scholarly apparatus at times feel outdated—but often illuminatingly so. It's revealing to see what the academy felt was worthy of study back then, and to see the types of aesthetic value judgments that an African American literature professor made in the mid 1920s. And the book still provides a useful sampling of early Black writers' works. |
Review # 2 was written on 2008-10-29 00:00:00 Laura Mctaggart A tremendously important anthology that should be on the shelf of all American literature teachers. Very comprehensive and lesson-friendly. |
