Review # 1 was written on 2018-10-26 00:00:00 Edward Augusto I was raised on the southwest corner of this region. I've always told people that it was can be looked as either the part of Texas the white men wanted least or the part the indians fought hardest to keep. It now appears that even the indians didn't want the southwest corner. All the indian fights were well over to the east. My part of Texas was part of the LLanyo Estacado which was only passed over and visited by the Indians as there was no surface water to be counted on. This book should be required reading in the high schools in the area. Very interesting. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-11-25 00:00:00 Mark Ballard Classic midwestern yarns such as the story of Paul Bunyan creating an atomic bomb to spearhead a USA WWII victory (seriously!). An unusual (although welcoming) inclusion in the Pantheon Fairytale and Folklore library. There is a noteworthy absence of traditional motif (consequently, taxonomy). There is a fine line between bravado and braggadocio; much of midwestern "folklore" intentionally overshoots. Enmeshed in this thematic underpinning are some fantastic tales. |
