Review # 1 was written on 2012-07-26 00:00:00 William Smart Good book to skim for those providing training, adult literacy, and other types of nontraditional education. Give it an in epth read if you are specifically interested in learning more about what a workplace educator does or should do. This research raises excellent questions about the role of an adult educator working within a larger system. The authors basically argue that if we don't address the bigger picture of how, why & when skills actually GET used in their social contexts, then our teaching is not very effective, or can be used for unintended purposes (for example, figuring out who to fire). The book also offers examples of when systemic issues were addressed well by a workplace educator and resulted in genuine change. |
