The field of philosophy of science has grown in various directions over the past few decades and while all its growth—especially the greater inclusion of the life sciences—will benefit science as a whole, this multiform style of growth in this expansive, unbound, discipline also means that it has become harder and harder to keep track of new currents of thought and directions in the field. This book brings together a good collection of quality essays germane to the history and historiography of the philosophy of science and in doing so, gives the student or scholar a good basal grounding in the field and novel paths various researchers have taken. Unlike most scientific research, work on the philosophy of science is done as much in the library or study as in the lab, and considerations often fall by the wayside only to be rediscovered and examined anew years—even decades—later in a historical context. This volume better provides a means of considering a wealth of ideas in the context of one anthology. My only complaint is that it is obviously meant for academic libraries and not the scholar or certainly student as it is priced around $200; this is an important complaint because it's a book one will wish to come back to time and again and such is a lot easier when you own the volume.

This was great. I've listened to it about 3 times now. Wish I could find the printed version of it.
