This book was not what the jacket blurb said it would be. The author does not really talk about crimes against women, but rants in chapter after chapter about how nobody really gets it but her and the victims of that violence. She dismisses anyone who can grow a beard as incapable of understanding or correctly addressing the issues -- which is a tough one because most police, prosecutors and MDs are in fact male, even now. Her stories about how she helps women in her own practice seems like a fine recipe book for encouraging victim identification and promoting, not empowerment, but a sense of helplessness. Granted, things were far worse for female crime victims when this book first came out, but is there really any point in publishing another book explaining that we live in a sexist, racist, ableist world with no hope for half the human race?

Essential read for anyone who is concerned about the welfare of our children and the protection of women and children from sexual assault -- particularly those who are feminists. This book will turn your assumptions upside down. Our predator laws are far less about keeping us safe and far more about assuring the reelection of those already in power. Don't believe me? Read the book.
