(Mommy's review from 2/28/12) 3.5 - This is another book Julia brother home from her Kindergarten library. It's obvious looking back that she's growing in her searching - she's much better at picking out books she'll likely enjoy rather than any book with a dinosaur (or whatever subject she's wanting to read about at the moment... usually dinos.) This is a lot better than the collection of dinosaur poems we once read by Jane Yolen. I'd link that book but I forget the title and don't have time to search. I seem to remember finding it difficult to pull even one or two poems that I liked that Yolen's while this is the other way around with Wise's. 'Dinosaur Noises' didn't fit IMO and Julia didn't like that one much either but the rest of them are pretty darn good. Some slightly longer than others, some pretty short, all about dinosaurs and all a lot of fun to read and listen to. There are a few words that will be a bit beyond some readers but certainly not enough to detract from the book. I look at it as a learning opportunity unless the author(s) goes overboard with it. Wise doesn't do that. Lynn Munsinger's illustrations are about what I expected - pleasant to look at and humorous to boot. Julia actually wanted to read this again last night after already reading it two nights before. Her school library books are kept for one week and she rarely asks to read the book she took out a second time, even if she liked it very much. She has far too many books to reread at this point. Girls and boys will like this, even children who aren't into poetry much - neither one of us are much in love with poetry actually - but if they're a dino lover they'll probably enjoy this book.

Grade/interest level: Primary (K-2nd) Reading level: Not found Genre: Poetry Dinosaurs Forever is a book of poems about dinosaurs dressed in human clothes doing silly things dinosaurs normally would not do. However, many of the poems are informational and talk about what specific dinosaurs were actually like in a fun and interesting way. Although the book is meant to be silly to capture the attention of young readers, the poems often highlight the key features of certain dinosaurs so that it is still informational. The book contains detailed illustrations of dinosaurs doing silly things that children will absolutely love! I would use this book in my classroom when doing a unit on dinosaurs because I think poems are a fun way to present information to students. Additionally I think my students would really enjoy the illustrations since the dinosaurs look funny rather than silly.
