When I was in high school history was not my favorite subject but now that I am a retired senior citizen it has taken on a new appeal for me. When I was working as a policeman I always thought of a unsolved crime as part of dealing with what needed to be done at work, but now I see it from various approaches. The book Great Puzzles of History further heightened my new viewpoint on dealing with unsolved cases As I read through a chapter on a historical puzzle I found myself wanting to gather more information so it spurred me on to going to the library to further research subjects. This book gives just the right amount of information to outline a basic mystery and just enough wetting of the curiosity to keep the reader wanting to go on through the book. Very nice job of making histories puzzles worth thinking about! To me this is a book that people of differing ages can enjoy without having to worry that they may not finish it. My rating is five stars all the way for this neat book.

A friend of mine who shares my interest in Kung-fu turned me on to author Fred Neff. Since then I have enjoyed reading many of his books. Great Puzzles of History gave me a new perspective on some very interesting historical topics. The author has a way of beautifully simplifying a presentation so that it is easily understood yet intriguing. Great Puzzles really got me thinking about the historical figures covered and the times when they lived. I learned through reading this book not only new historical facts but how to better question the reality of past people and events. The book was so good that I still weeks after reading it keep coming back to thinking about it. That is part of the beauty of the book it makes you think and gives you a chance to work out for yourself in detective fashion just what really happened. To me this is one fantastic book that I can recommend without any hesitation.
