This book is one of my favorites to use during either community service time, careers, or fire prevention time. This book gives great real terms to the fire equipment used by fire fighters each day. It is an ABC book so that is an added bonus. My husband is a professional firefighter and it is one of the most accurate he has seen. There is an added picture in the book that can be copied and colored that is labeled with some of the equipment. The illustrations are done well and show a lot of details. The book is easy to read but has enough detail that can give students a good idea of what firefighters equipment looks like. When I share it with my second graders they can transfer the information to the presentation that the fire department gives during fire prevention week. This book is a simple but accurate list of fire equipment used and is great to use in classrooms from second grade down.

Johnson, Jean. Fire fighters : A to Z; New York : Walker, 1985. Juvenile Literature/Learning Each letter of the alphabet introduces a topic relating to fire fighters and their jobs. Good for learning about the alphabet. Excellent drawings and graphics. Firefighters are heroes to children.
