Review # 1 was written on 2013-09-29 00:00:00 Michael Craig These remarks are made in regards Wrong Mountain, as wild and intimidating a work as La BĂȘte. Also like La BĂȘte, Wrong Mountain takes on the question of artistic integrity in the face of wide-scale cultural banality and reaches conclusions just as ambiguous. Has the main character learned anything at all? Is he still profoundly lost, if in a different way than at the beginning of the play? And is bracing uncertainty preferable to safe certitude? |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-12-01 00:00:00 Barry Jones Just finished re-reading these plays. I saw La Bete at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival when I was in high school, and I was blown away. It's a Moliere-like piece about the freedom of the artist in society and patronage. Wrong Mountain, on the other hand, is more about the constraints of the artist upon himself. I wish I could have these plays performed at my local community theater. |
