Review # 1 was written on 2017-01-09 00:00:00 Xavier Pottier When I was quite a bit younger, and would see an issue of The New Yorker, the first thing I would do was look at all of the "cartoons" in the magazine. In fact, I cannot remember reading many articles that long ago, but some of the drawings are still vivid in my memory. Saul Steinberg's beautiful line drawings always captured my imagination. Charles Addams humor with a dark twist made me wonder if I grew up with people who were too "normal" and how could I find others who lived in this other world? Reading Shirley Jackson somehow reconnected me back to thinking about Charles Addams in particular, and that is how I found this book. Sparked tangents can be exciting reading. |
Review # 2 was written on 2010-05-15 00:00:00 Sylvain menard Intelligently written -- although a bit repetitive and flowery. It's a great read about an overlooked genre. |
