"Marx was right about Hegel, in other words. The point of philosophy for Hegel is to comprehend the world, not to change it; and this for a simple reason that Marx never properly understood: it can't." Oh my.

I had very little background in Hegel before reading this book. Pippin is relatively clear and explains Hegel well. At times, Pippin can be a little wordy and makes points more robustly than seems necessary, but this is barely a downside as Pippin's readings and explanations of Hegel are fascinating. This book never felt like a slough for me. This book is and will continue to be of interest to me philosophically as it centers on some of the issues on which I am most focused philosophically. I have, of course, some disagreements with Pippin (and Hegel), especially about modernity. However, overall this is an engaging read that I am sure to return to again in the future.
