Review # 1 was written on 2012-08-13 00:00:00 Peter Moua Despite its occasional and sometimes ridiculous anachronisms (i.e. likening 15th century Czech Taborites to modern Iran), this book is extraordinary for its scale and scope. It covers wide range of geographies, peoples and time span. In terms of the factual history, this is still the best comprehensive book on the general history of Eastern Europe. It contains very big, almost encyclopedic body of information on the political, economic and demographic history of the region. That's why it's totally worth having. Unfortunately I cannot say the same for the commentary. |
Review # 2 was written on 2017-05-31 00:00:00 Brenda Soto Considering the subject matter is so delicate and complicated Bose enlightens and illuminates to such a degree that I was gripped from the start. I was reading this for my dissertation and it remains one of the only 'academic' books that I have read cover to cover. |
