Review # 1 was written on 2012-09-13 00:00:00 Len Gustafson The front cover image is of Sylvia Plath as a saint, which, after reading Bloom's introduction, is clearly meant to mock how she has been supposedly canonised by her fans. In my opinion she is just a good poet that has been recognised as such! The book is made up of interesting essays that are undermined by the editor - I do understand that he is the editor for a series and therefore didn't pick to be involved in a book about a poet that isn't to his taste, but to me he comes across as arrogant and unhelpful. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-03-14 00:00:00 Thomas Wittkoski While I enjoyed the analysis of the selected poems by the various critics, I think Bloom's overall critique of Sylvia Plath is slanted towards the negative, and I just don't share the same view. Of course everyone has a right to their opinion. |
