Review # 1 was written on 2011-12-05 00:00:00 Heather Bauer Sullivan This book was good at parts, but the narrative gets bogged down by the author's decision to interweave segments on how the Supreme Court functions in general with the details of the actual case*, which leads, among other things, to awkward and sudden changes of tense. Still, the research and sourcing are good, so you get a pretty good idea about the stakes involved. My views on Affirmative Action have been profoundly altered. *As a side note, Anthony Lewis takes a similar approach in Gideon's Trumpet yet manages to pull it off much better. |
Review # 2 was written on 2021-06-20 00:00:00 Catherine Hartman this book was actually pretty boring to read. It's just a little dry and slow. However, the issues brought forth concerning affirmative action and reverse discrimination are very interesting. Of all the research I did for a 20 page paper I wrote on constitutionality, this was probably one of the least interesting to read, but most instrumental in forming my arguments and pointing me towards more information to research. |
