Review # 1 was written on 2020-09-26 00:00:00 Joseph Yarrow I've always had a lot of respect for Pillsbury, for his experience, knowledge, expertise, analysis, etc. That said, I'm well aware he's controversial within the China/East Asia analyst and scholar circles, but I tend to buy more into what he has to say, assert, maintain, and forecast than other, more "popular" (trendy) Asia think tankers (as in Elizabeth Economy, for instance, who I disagree with in nearly everything she says or writes and whom I think is sadly naive, yet who everyone slobbers over for her "expert" opinions as she's considered one of the top five or fewer experts on China and East Asia -- and only time will tell who's right -- Pillsbury or Economy. I know where I'll put my money) Pillsbury is the editor of this book, but it has his stamp on it and has solid content and analysis, so definitely recommended to those with legit concerns about 2049 or who are just curious in general. As for those who feel China is about to implode because of oncoming economic woes, I generally hope your optimism is fairly accurate, but I'll believe it when I see it. Recommended.
