Review # 1 was written on 2012-05-26 00:00:00 Milton Perez I was interested in this book due to working within the criminal justice population and primarily because I typically work with black males. It was difficlut for me to reconcile with the methodology given that I am use to a more psychological approach and this felt way more anthropological to me. That is not really a criticism however because this is a cultural issue. It was also very subjective given that the doctor conducted the study in his own neighborhood. I am always wary of first-hand accounts in these circumstances given that the data I think you often recieve initially is often secondary to a deeper truth. I will say though that his theory on the "overtly masculinized" behavior is dead on and something I witness, dissect, and process every day. I didn't not enjoy the theories and conclusions but it wasn't enthralling and didn't really tell me too much that I didn't already feel like I knew. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-02-26 00:00:00 William Deville I loved this book. I'm not entirely sure how I got out of a graduate degree in U.S. History without ever learning about Miriam Leslie. There is a movie there! |
