The author of the book I chose to read is Laura Jackson. The title of her book is Bono: His Life, Music and Passions. This book is about the rock band U2. It covers their entire career, starting with their humble beginnings to stardom, illustrating what they have learned, and been through together. The major theme of the book is staying true to yourself and not letting your ego of being a superstar destroy who you are as a person or your values. I would recommend this book to anyone because of its insight and focus on how to become a better person, regardless of your position in life. The book covers the life of Bono, the lead singer of U2, and how his band mates evolve into the good people they are today. “Being in a rock band at a young age and at the same time attending private religious prayer and confession sessions laid them right open to the risk of ridicule (page 23).” Even when they became superstars and could have anything they wanted, Bono and his band members still maintained a close relationship with God. Another example of when the band showed their true colors was at a nuclear processing plant off the British Coast. It was polluting the body of water between England and Ireland. Bono started a concert named Greenpeace to raise awareness for the crisis. “The concert, unambiguously billed as ‘Greenpeace’, supported a lineup that included Big Audio Dynamite 2 and Public Enemy” (page 120).” Bono set this up this show support and raise money for the environment and his home country Ireland. This is one of many reasons Bono is one of the greatest humanitarians in the world of music. Bono and his band have done very selfless things for the world we live in today. Whether it’s him growing in his Christian faith or raising awareness for global pollution that affects his country or others, they have always helped out. In my final judgment I think Bono has given great advice for his followers of all ages and I hope he doesn’t stop making great music. This book is a well written, quick-read for those interested in Bono and his band U2.

It feels great to read about the best moments on one of rock music's biggest stars and one of the most passionate activists in the world. Through his stages of music and entertainment, Bono has always encouraged and inspired people to follow in his legacy. I would highly recommend this book for eager musicians because those who love U2 really love it and it still continues to be one of my favorites!
