Review # 1 was written on 2018-04-13 00:00:00 Sarkis Sarkissian I have met Larry Elmore, and cannot say enough good things about his personality and his artwork. However, this book was not great. Fortunately, when I met him, it had been about 10 years since I had read this and completely forgot about it at the time, so I didn't make a dumb mistake and comment offhandedly on it. While it had its good parts, decent action and a lush fantasy setting, the story took a long time to get to an obvious point, and the action stopped for lots of world building and explication too often. Also, too many goofball, wocka-wocka hey-hey characters in this. Read it if you have a free weekend with nothing else to read. Otherwise, enjoy Larry's artwork. |
Review # 2 was written on 2013-10-08 00:00:00 Gary Grasser Generic 80's fantasy, mixed with a boring writing style, and sprinkled with just enough AD&D that you don't forget that TSR published it. Larry Elmore is a fine artist (indeed, the only real highlight of the book are his illustrations) but is at best a mediocre and forgettable writer. |
