Review # 1 was written on 2021-10-05 00:00:00 Robin Pulley Second read and LOVED this book, even better than the first time when it was initially published. Hammer did a fabulous job of taking me along on his journey and I felt the revulsion and attraction I always feel when I’ve been around the Hasidim. I felt the author’s ambiguity and the fairness with which he treated his brother. If you don’t know much about Hasidic Jews, you’ll learn a lot in this book. |
Review # 2 was written on 2015-03-05 00:00:00 Randall R Wilkinson I truly enjoyed this book and learned quite a lot about the Jewish faith. The story is about two brothers trying to understand and accept each others choices in life. Joshua Hammer the older brother and author of this memoir tells of his emotional journey of acceptance, compassion and acceptance of his younger brothers choice to live and raise his family in the ultra religious Hasidic Jewish faith. This book is beautifully written, and very educational |
