This book narrates the history of the the discovery of fingerprints as an evidentiary tool. The use of fingerprints to aid in criminology was suggested by Henry Foulds. Before that, scientist used anthropmetry as an aid. The discovery of the uniqueness of fingerprints actually created forensic science. During the evolution of fingerprint use, methods to describe and characterize prints were developed. In the late 1800's men like William Herschel, Francis Galton and Edward Henry all entered the picture. Use of fingerprints was slow to catch on, primarily because of the difficulty in classification technology and filing. Today, the use of fingerprints is accepted world wide and evidence. Interesting informative read.

An astounding story of the men who worked for decades to legitimize the use of fingerprints in crime fighting. It reads like fiction, but it is amazing nonfiction. I cannot recommend this book enough!
