Willie's sister Tina has written a class play. Tina describes the characters in her play at diner. Max the giant (to be played by an older kid); four elves (to be played by kindergartners); Igor the evil prince, Tara the proud fairy princess, and a bunch of trees. Willie suggests that no one one wants to play a tree and they get in a bit of a tiff at the table until their parents calm them down. Willie was a frog in a play a couple years ago so her parents think she could have a part in this one. Willie decides the part she wants is to be the princess. Willie bugs her sister for the part, but Tina says she has to be fair, but does relent by giving Willie the script early so she can begin learning the part. By the time of the tryout Willie has learned all of the characters in the play's lines. Meanwhile all the kids in the neighborhood are being nice to Tina trying to get a part in the play. On the day of tryouts Willie asks to borrow Teddy's good luck charm, and quite reluctantly Tina gives it to her. Willie is so nervous when it is her turn to try out that Crawford has to push her to get going. She takes off her sweater to put on the cape they are wearing for the princess tryouts. When she gets off stage she is positive she did badly but her friends suggest she did well so she begins to hope again. After the tryouts are over she remembers the sweater which had the good luck charm on it. She rushes back to the stage to get it but it is gone. The next morning Willie rushes into school to look in the lost and found box, she finds the sweater but not the good luck charm. She then continues to look through the school for it, while trying to avoid discussing it with her sister (although once when she does ask, Willie says it is at school, which she figures is technically true.) That day they tell who got the parts, the elves go to some kindergartners including some kids from her neighborhood Booker and Betty. Igor goes to Crawford Mills. Tara went to Lilac Starr one of Willie's classmates. Max went to another neighbor Gregory Greene. Willie finds out she is a tree. That day after school Willie asks Tina why she didn't get the part. Tina asks if she really wants to know. Willie says yes but Tina's answer is brutal honest and the girls get into a fight that Mrs. Cotton has to break up. The rest of the week they are separated after school, with Willie going to their room and Tina going to the study. While Willie is glad that this gives Tina less opportunities to ask about the lost good luck charm she starts to miss her sister. When it is time for rehearsal, Willie is shown the X on which she must stand during the play, but Lilac Starr says she should move back. The teacher gives confused instructions but which Willie takes to mean that she can stand on her X. Before the dress rehearsal, Willie dreamed that she was the star of the play, but she points out that often her dreams are wrong. The dress rehearsal goes badly with Lilac wanting Willie to move off her X and farther away, when Willie shakes her leaves it makes Lilac sneeze, kids in the audience start laughing and Crawford's voice is so scratchy it is hard to make out. Tina is upset about the bad dress rehearsal which makes Willie think she should have just stepped off her X but Mrs. White (who is the faculty member in charge of the play) reassures everyone that some things like Lilac sneezing weren't something she could help, and Mrs. White takes ownership for the X problem since she wasn't clear enough that Willie should stay on her X. Otherwise she tells them that the audience might think some of the things that happened were just part of the play and then tells them the saying that a bad dress rehearsal means a good opening night. Everyone feels better until they realize that Crawford has completely lost his voice and that his understudy has not learned his lines. Mrs. White suggests letting him go on stage with the script, which no one likes but Tina especially feels bad and thinks that everyone will think this is an awful play and she says she will never write another. Willie goes to comfort her sister and announces that she can play the part since she memorized all the parts when she memorized Princess Tara's part. Initially Lilac says she won't play her part if Willie is going to be Igor, but when Lilac's understudy excitedly says she does know her lines Lilac changes her mind. The play goes great. Willie notices that Igor's part is great, it has the funniest lines and as she is taking her bows she sees the lucky charm and returns it to Tina who makes Willie admit she lost it, but doesn't stay mad at her since Willie saved the play. Willie notes she went from a frog to prince in her acting career. Willa

"Rule Book #4" of the Willimena Rules! series. Willie's older sister Tina has written a play that's been selected to be produced as a school play. Willie longs to play the proud fairy princess but her audition goes badly and she is selected instead to be one of the trees. Rehearsals go from bad to worse when just before the big night, the boy acting as Prince Igor loses his voice. Willie steps forward to play the Prince because she knows all his lines. The play is saved and Willie earns Tina's gratitude.
