The eighth book in The Cheetah Girls series is told from the POV of Aqua (I guess her twin Angie is never getting a POV book - much like how they cut her out of the movies, poor girl). In this one, Aqua and Angie return to Houston, Texas for Thanksgiving, but while there, there is a charity concert headlined by Karma's Children (Destiny's Child anyone?) that Aqua and Angie audition for. What luck - they score the entire Cheetah Girls a trip to Texas to perform there. I can't get over just how lucky these girls are. They might always come runner-up in the contests they take part in, but when it comes to actually scoring an opportunity, they really strike gold. Aqua and Angie happen to get through with an audition of just the two of them, and then ask the lady who tells them they got through if the other girls can perform and for the charity to PAY for THREE plane tickets OVERNIGHT from New York to Texas. A CHARITY BENEFIT PAY, I repeat, PAY, for THREE plane tickets for three girls who didn't audition for a FREE event. AND they sing their 'It's Raining Men' rip-off to get through? Nah, that doesn't sit right with me. There is a subplot with the twins' uncle going missing for five days - that was interesting, but also it took Galleria (who has never met the uncle before) to find out where he is. I just have to make down logic for this one, because even though this series hasn't delivered in the logic department, it seriously went bananas in this one. However, I do like how storylines follow on from each book, as I was expecting very singular stories with each book. The flow is there and I like seeing this journey unfold, despite the fact this book is clearly not written for me (at all, but I'm still reading).

Growl Power Plot: The twins (Angie and Aqua) have plans to go back home to Houston for Thanksgiving break. The rest of the Cheetah Girls (Chanel, Dorinda, and Galleria) will be staying in New York, because either their plans got cancelled or they didn’t have any. Angie and Aqua are still kind of worried about their Dad because he’s not been looking well. Abala has him drinking some weird stuff, and he’s been losing weight (yet he thinks he’s never looked and felt better). But they vow not to say anything to their mom about it. (Why I’m honestly not sure. If I thought my stepmother was doing something harmful to my Dad, I think I’d want someone to know about it). Anyway, they try to sneak their pets on board because they think he’s so gone he won’t take care of the pets, but end up paying for them. When they get to Houston they notice that their Dad isn’t the only one he hasn’t been acting like himself. Their mom isn’t either. Because her nails are chipped and she doesn’t have on heels (which doesn’t say much off the bat because I’m realizing how fast nail polish doesn’t stay polished. And who the hell wants to wear heels all the time. She’s just picking them up at the airport). But also her house is a mess. Their Uncle they find out hasn’t been home in a while and everyone (including his kids) are worried. They also learn Karma’s Children (Destiny’s Child) is auditioning local talent to open for them at this big benefit concert that’s raising money for the homeless in Houston. Angie and Aqua of course want to audition, but feel bad because the rest of the CG’s can’t. So they talk to Galleria who pretty much tells them they might as well. So they audition after standing in this LOOOOONG line, and they meet a blues group (Fish and Chips). Their mom slightly catches feelings for one of em (Chips), and invites them both to dinner. (Which I was slightly impressed by). The Cheetah Girls get one of the spots and convince the person over it to fly in the rest of the CG’s. And Aqua convinces them to give Fish and Chips a spot (aka their future step daddy). They track down the uncle (Jeeter) at a cemetery, depressed, and drunk (possibly high) pretty much tired of life and all the bs it’s dumped on him (BEEN THERE!) And he get’s the chance to perform with Fish and Chips. My Thoughts: *What number book is this? EIGHT! And they STILL on Chanel because she ran up her mom’s credit card. LET IT GO!!! You’d think she’d ran up *their* (the Cheetah Girls) credit cards. (Of which they have none). This isn’t even Juanita. Who by the way she’s paying back. But every book they’re on her about well you ran up your mon’s credit card. MOVE ON! *I actually kind of am feeling Skeeter in this one. He’s tired of trying to make people happy. He just wants to rest in peace. The man hates his job. He’s lost his wife. He’s broke. And does he get any sympathy. HELL NO! Mrs. Walker is just like quit whining and feeling sorry for yourself. I almost expected her to ask him does he know how blessed he is to be able to have a job and see another day. Which sometimes you just DO NOT wanna hear. And you think she’d be a little more sympathetic considering she just told the twins how bad she’s been feeling since they and her husband left. *Actually, I think Miss Walker might be right “Do you know what the chances are of a black woman over fo*It kinda got under my skin when Big Momma insinuates just because he didn’t bring his woman home that “you know she ain’t no Christian woman”. Like she’s just trash because she’s not a Christian. REALLY?!! WOW! rty finding another man?” Not high I tell you that doggone much from what I’ve seen. *It kinda got under my skin when Big Momma insinuates just because he didn’t bring his woman home that “you know she ain’t no Christian woman”. Like she’s just trash because she’s not a Christian. REALLY?!! WOW! Rating 5 Not very much to this one. The CG’s to not have a record deal yet are doing better than most groups starting out. They’ve performed twice at the Apollo, at a lounge in Cali, and at a big Houston concert in front of thousands. We should ALL have this kind of luck! It's kinda funny there's jealous of Destiny's Child. Just wait a couple of years Aqua and Angie. Just wait.
