Review # 1 was written on 2016-10-04 00:00:00 Gary Abrahams A fascinating and thorough look at the path our government took to regulate this 20th century innovation. The wrong turns, the right turns, the corrections and missteps along the way guided by the benefit of hindsight are laid out by Benson in a chronological narrative. Not as boring as one might expect, and I intend that as a compliment. If you have any interest in government regulation, broadcast, or are just curious to learn how the sausage is made then this is worth a read. |
Review # 2 was written on 2014-12-17 00:00:00 Jaime Cooke Took me a while to read through this, as it's both dated (originally published prior to GHOSTS OF MARS) and a fairly surface-level recounting of Carpenter's filmography. Here's what the films are, here's what critics thought of them at the time, here's what the author thinks, etc. And it's fine, it's exactly the kind of reference book I like to page through when I'm listening to music or something, but the definitive book on Carpenter has yet to be written. |
