An uncle in our family served as a combat medic with the 10th Mountain. I wanted to read a book that would help me understand what he did and what it was like, since many from World War II never talked about their experiences. This book accomplished that for me. It was an honest telling from the author's viewpoint and gave a good insight to actual experiences of a solider, without glorifying the military or war itself. If you want to know what it was like, this is the book to read.

Concise write-ups of the lives of the U.S. Vice Presidents through Al Gore, the incumbent when this book was published. There are a handful of factual errors and typos throughout, which seem to be the result of sloppy editing: i.e. a reference to "Senator" Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Foley was not Speaker of the House in 1969, repeated reference to presidents being "elected" in the odd-numbered years in which they took office. My favorite was the boarding house where the owners had no problems with "immortality" among the residents! So I would double check any details with another source if you are citing this book as a reference. But for an overall summary of the lives of the Vice Presidents, it is a good read and shares some interesting anecdotes.
