★★★★! Darley series, book 2 of 3. War hero, Duff, The Marquis of Darley’s pursuit of actress Annabelle Foster who only agreed to a friendship! UK EDITION SERIES INFO & REVIEW The Darley series Book 2 Formats: Kindle & paperback for both US/UK The Darley series introduces us to three generations of the Marquis of Darley, heir to the Duke of Westerland, starting with Julius D’Abernon – the rich and jaded playboy of 1788. Susan Johnson aka C.C. Gibbs has different publishers in the US and UK, hence the different titles and covers. These are stand-alones, but most enjoyed if read in order: Book 1: (Year 1788) When You Love Someone Book 2: (Year 1816) When Someone Loves You (US) / When Someone Loves You (UK) Book 3: (Year 1855) At Her Service (US) / At Her Command (UK) DUFF D’ABERNON, MARQUIS OF DARLEY: 27years/war veteran/Lord/heir to the Duke of Westerland/$$$$/dark hair/dark eyes. In his early twenties Duff had met the Annabelle and given her carte blanche but she had turned down his offer. When they meet again Annabelle is still not interested in a relationship, but agrees to a friendship. Annabelle has many admirers as well as secrets… A beautiful story about friendship, painful pasts, intrigue, suspense, sizzling sex and above all love! *** Hero rating: 4 stars Heroine rating: 4 stars Sex scenes rating: 4.5 stars Sex scenes frequency: 4 stars Storyline concept rating: 4 stars Storytelling skills rating: 5 stars Story ending rating: 5 stars ****************************** Overall rating: 4 stars Would I recommend this series: Yes. It was common gossip that "Duff" D'Abernon, Marquis of Darley, had returned from Waterloo a changed man. Gone was the reckless youth and in his place was a sullen recluse more interested in tending his horses than attending balls. But now the Marquis was entering the game again, openly flirting with the beautiful, witty, and thoroughly disreputable Annabelle Foster. Annabelle's no stranger to scandal. The actress-playwright is rumored to have had liaisons with any number of powerful men, with an illegitimate daughter to show for it. She won't chance heartache again, even for a man as tempting as Duff D'Abernon. What she offers instead is a compromise: a true friendship between equals. Each agrees to the terms. A bargain is struck. And an idyllic summer begins. But what starts as friendship soon blossoms into searing passion. And the only thing worse than risking their hearts is not risking them at all... This is the second book in the series and just as good as the first! I appreciated that the first book was about the Marquis of Darley and his wife, and this book is about there first son, the original Marquis and Marchioness (who through inheritance are now the duke and duchess) still play a part in this book as well. Most sequels are usually about a child or minor character from the previous book and in the sequel the previous book's characters receive a minor mentioning or small part (usually hinting at an up coming child or pregnancy). In, When Someone Loves You, the duke and duchess play a significant role in the later story concerning there son, and interact through out the entire book. I'm pretty much a creature of habit and stick mostly to historical romance, which as much as I enjoy this type of book some of the story lines can become so similar they tend to blend together after a while... for me these books stand out in my memory they are original with out leaving my comfort zone When You Love Someone and When Someone Loves you are now on my list of all time favorites I'm looking forward to the third book, and interested to know what the variation of the title will be lol!
