Review # 2 was written on 2009-01-27 00:00:00 Robert Alexander This book has the unusual quality of becoming more interesting as it goes along with the last few pages being the best. This is the third book in a row I've read that contains marital infidelity as a major component, which is something which I usually treat with the contempt that I think it deserves. My reaction in this book was that, as character Fitzgibbons puts it, "he marveled at the elegant workings of the arrangement and fervently wished he'd been its architect but knew that he hadn't been." I also love the way the town of Paterson is used almost as a character, for example this,"Paterson snorts. Instructs one of her legion of bartenders to be mean to you, to take a shot at your wife. Extinguishes half her street lights. Covers her moon. Puts rusted bicycles in your path." My feeling by the end was just relief for smart and brave little Maura. |
